The Mark Twain is at the dock, waiting for you to board! C'mon—hurry up, so that you can take a spin around the Rivers of America on this majestic beauty of a boat.

Once again, more mysterious construction going on here. I believe the Indian Village had already moved over to this location by 1956, so not quite sure what the pickup truck and lumber are for; maybe just a "plussing" of the show.



Curious people like me just have to zoom in.



Despite the construction, the canoes appear to operating just fine.



With Castle Rock in the foreground, you can see The Mark Twain's competition (The Columbia) in the background, alongside the Matterhorn.



The Burning Cabin and the Dead Settler:



Gotta' see that gore as close as possible!



The faux Indian Village along the river:



And barely visible is the dead Indian; unlike the Dead Settler, this guy at least gets wrapped up:

Welcome back to March 1957! The Mine Train is just leaving the loading area for another adventure through the desert and the caverns of Rainbow Mountain. At this stage in time, the train was named The Rainbow Mountain Railroad (thus the RMRR on the side—pure genius, huh?). Can you believe the El Dorado Hotel is still in business? Check it out next time you are on Big Thunder Mountain! Or just look at the next photo if you can't make it to Anaheim:



Back to 1957, here's another angle from the same batch of photos:



I love this point-of-view shot taken from the Stagecoach; almost like you were there. Unfortunately, this attraction 86'ed by 1960:



This photo gives a great view of the Mark Twain dock as well as an overview of the town of Rainbow Ridge (with that newfangled Skyway contraption in the background):



This shot has me baffled; Fort Wilderness can be seen here, but I can't figure out what the construction going on in the left-hand corner would be.



Zooming in, hopefully some Disneyland Geek smarter than me can figure this one out:



Last one for today is a closeup of Fort Wilderness. Looks like landscaping is busy beautifying the grounds with some new trees.

It’s a wacky bag of assorted shots today from August 1958, with one standout image, which will hopefully make it worth viewing for all of you readers out there. It’s a busy day at the castle, with Main Street vehicles dumping people off left and right.

Let's get right to the gem of the batch, shall we? Here is The Viewliner, in all its miniature toy-like glory. These two ladies are either very savvy or just plain lucky, as The Viewliner was only in operation for one more month after this photo was taken.



The photographer obviously felt that once was not enough, and decided to capture this view of Dumbo & The Skyway twice.





As we look at the Jungle Cruise lanai, I begin to drift off into boredom.



With this last shot of the Old Mill on Tom Sawyer Island, I have drifted off to sleep completely.

Today, Katella Gate's patience is rewarded with a ton o' photos of Bobby & Susie exploring on Pack Mules and running around Tom Sawyer's Island. Susie looks a little uneasy sitting on top of that Mule in her freshly starched outfit.



Tommy wants to ride the Stagecoach, but bratty little Susie says "no way." She's heard too many stories of these contraptions tipping over!



She braves a raft though (it's got a newfangled motor!) to get to Tom Sawyer's Island.



So many choices...where to go first?



You can guess who'll be leaving that smelly ol' fish behind at the dock!



Susie stands back a little bit; she's not very interested about going into a dirty dark cave. Bobby is ready for exploration though!

Building on yesterday’s post featuring the Gullywhumper, here’s another shot of the venerable Keel Boat from June 1965. This batch has a number of nice images that I’ll be showing here over the next week or so. I would be remiss if I didn’t post a closeup of this motley crew here, especially the Priscilla Presley inspired bouffanted guest in pink; her hair ain’t done til it’s overdone!

As my previous poll showed, quite a few readers miss the Keel Boats. Today’s post shows a nice clear image (albeit undated) of The Gullywhumper. The detail shot shows what appears to be a cast member wearing a flannel coat that perhaps came from the Pendleton Shop in Frontierland?

Welcome to Frontierland, pardners, circa 1971! Our photographer took his first Frontierland shot at Fowler’s Harbor, with the Columbia resting up in between journeys. Always one for equal time, I wouldn’t want to leave out the Mark Twain:

Yet the end of another Daveland series, with today’s entry located in Frontierland. The majestic Columbia is sitting at the dock, awaiting another journey around the Rivers of America. If I were a betting man (and for the most part I’m not), I would bet that this shot was taken from the tables in front of Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo BBQ Restaurant, looking out at the Bandstand on the Rivers of America. The Strawhatters are keeping the guests entertained in this shot.



If you were to sit in this area today, this is what you’d see:



Back to August 1958, we have a view of the Canoes, manned by real Native Americans (known as Indians back then). Note guests doing some actual fishing on the pier, before this activity was removed from the park.



Naturally, it wouldn’t be a Frontierland series without one of the Mark Twain:
