The first photo of today is not from the March 1957 batch, but rather another 1957 set of images. Why is it here? Because I want to set the scene for you, faithful readers. Imagine boarding your 1957 Skyway bucket and soaring high over the park. Below you see a silver-suited spaceman from the future. And in image #2 (where we transition back to the March 1957 grouping), you float by the iconic Moonliner, sponsored by TWA.



Quickly passing through the Matterhorn into Fantasyland, we fly over the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship Restaurant:



So close you can almost reach out and touch the Crow's Nest!



Once out of the Skyway Bucket, we leave the Fantasyland Skyway Station (shown here in this August 1958 image)...



and our March 1957 photographer begins to explore Fantasyland from the ground. It appears he wanted to hide behind the landscaping for this Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship shot:



And then wanted to get as close as possible to Monstro's eyeball in this Storybook Land shot, capturing the area that would soon be home to Skull Rock (note Cinderella's Castle towering in the background of Storybook Land):



So many details on Toad Hall! I love riding Storybook Land; sooooo much to observe.

It’s another one-post wonder today featuring this juicy colorful view of the Skyway over Fantasyland. Although this photo was undated, the Douglas Moonliner and the old-Skyway buckets helps narrow down the year. Be sure to notice the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship’s anchor peaking out on the left side of this image. I am also including a few fun closeups so that you can feast your eyes on the details:

And just for good measure, here is a view of the Fantasyland Skyway Station today, as it hides behind the trees that have grown around it over the last 50 years:

A lot of ground to cover today, so hang on folks and make sure you have your morning beverage of choice ready, cause it’s going to be a long one! The post is starting out with a vintage (July 1970) Submarine Voyage photo, followed by some pics showing the progress on the Nemo Submarine Voyage. Plenty of activity was occurring behind the barricades, including the Submarines in motion, “deep-sea” divers, construction folk, and some AA crabs/seagulls.












You can see the rest of my Nemo Sub photos on my website. Over on the Rivers of America, there is even more activity, as Tom Sawyer’s Island draws nearer to its May 24 due date for completion of phase 1. A new Pirate Crow’s Nest has been erected next to Harper’s Mill, and what appears to be the back of a marooned Pirate Ship is getting framed on the island. The rafts are providing transportation for the construction crew between the island and dry land. Sadly, the moose in the river is now in need of a little makeover as well.

I also found the sign that was in Friday’s post, and can say that 50 years later, it’s still looking pretty good. As as Walterworld said, it is over by the currently unused Fantasyland Skyway Station. You’ll note that the Skyway designation is no longer hanging there.
