Welcome back to March 1957! The Mine Train is just leaving the loading area for another adventure through the desert and the caverns of Rainbow Mountain. At this stage in time, the train was named The Rainbow Mountain Railroad (thus the RMRR on the side—pure genius, huh?). Can you believe the El Dorado Hotel is still in business? Check it out next time you are on Big Thunder Mountain! Or just look at the next photo if you can't make it to Anaheim:



Back to 1957, here's another angle from the same batch of photos:



I love this point-of-view shot taken from the Stagecoach; almost like you were there. Unfortunately, this attraction 86'ed by 1960:



This photo gives a great view of the Mark Twain dock as well as an overview of the town of Rainbow Ridge (with that newfangled Skyway contraption in the background):



This shot has me baffled; Fort Wilderness can be seen here, but I can't figure out what the construction going on in the left-hand corner would be.



Zooming in, hopefully some Disneyland Geek smarter than me can figure this one out:



Last one for today is a closeup of Fort Wilderness. Looks like landscaping is busy beautifying the grounds with some new trees.

I may not know the year, but thanks to the patriotic bunting in Town Square, I know it must be summer! Here is my favorite Main Street transportation, The Omnibus, ready to take another load of guests down to the Castle.

Over in Tomorrowland in front of the Art Corner, The Spaceman doesn’t seem too thrilled to be posing with this trio of kiddies; maybe it’s the end of his shift.



Here we are soaring over Fantasyland in a Skyway bucket; hey guests & cast members below, watch out for spitwads from above!



And just like yesterday, today’s last stop shows one of the teepees in the Indian Village:

It may not be a significant day to you, but for this group of guests, it sure was a day of fun and smiles. In shot #1, this guest is so awed to be standing in front of Walt's personal Autopia car that he takes his hat off in respect. In the background, you can see the entrance to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie prop exhibit.

In shot #2, she doesn't give a hoot about cars and motors; she just wants to show off the still very young landscaping.



Over at the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship, you can almost reach out and grab this man’s guide book!

Hard to believe but at one time, Fort Wilderness was an attraction itself as opposed to the restroom stop that it has morphed into today. Here Bobby & Susie enter this former world of Frontierland fun.



This is right up Bobby's alley! Not so much Susie's.



I hope Bobby isn't aiming at these guests here on the Indian canoe!

Pt. 2 is a step back in time, as we linger in the rustic part of Anaheim known as Frontierland. The Conestoga Wagon has gotten off to a thunderous start in photo #1. Well, maybe not thunderous, but it is moving forward. In shot #2, you can view the dock for Tom Sawyer’s Island, where you can get on a raft and cruise on over to see Tom & Becky. The umbrellas you see on the left are for the Chicken Plantation Restaurant.



Another Ceremonial Dance is entertaining the crowds at the Indian Village:



Last one for today shows the Columbia, ready for another trip around the Rivers of America. The Dixieland Bandstand is still drawing the crowds in near the Silver Banjo BBQ:

I have a lot of “stuff” for today’s post, so those that are attention-challenged, I apologize. I’ll start right off with 3 shots of the little towheads that were last seen on Alice’s ride; today they are enjoying the Midget Autopia in Fantasyland, February 1960.

This next photo was captured from the current Winnie The Pooh ride in (ugh) Critter Country. If you turn around as you enter the Honey Heaven room, you will see Max, Buff, and Melvin behind you, “hidden” high above. They are 3 characters from the famous Country Bear Jamboree, formerly located in the same area. I can only imagine the commentary they would have today about Critter Country.

Next up I have some photos that I took yesterday of the TSI rehab. Lotsa’ concrete, lumber, and even a gorgeous blue porta’ potty (not shown here...). Yes, there is even work going on over the weekend; guess they are trying hard to get it finished by the May deadline.










So that I won’t offend the vintage photo purists, here are a few of Fort Wilderness during its heyday, February 1960:







Even in today’s sophisticated world of technological toys and gadgets, what child would not have a blast entering into a life-size fort just waiting for exploration?!? Maybe the kind parked in a double-wide stroller with a parent talking on a cell phone mindless of the people around them (rant for the day has just concluded). Meanwhile, over in Tomorrowland, here are 2 shots from yesterday of the Nemo Submarine Voyage area.





Next up is a plug for a very cool collection of Main Street sculptures by Robert Olszewski. Yesterday was the release of the Plaza Inn and Snow White Wishing Well pieces. Future releases will include the Plaza Pavilion.



Olszewski’s attention to detail is phenomenal, and the series has slowly picked up steam and already become a huge collectible; John Lasseter reportedly has two sets, and a Haunted Mansion piece that originally sold for $295 is out of stock, and has recently fetched over $800 on ebay. Yesterday at the release event, the 2 sculptures sold out before everyone in line was able to buy one. If you have not seen this amazing set, you can check out the photos on my site. And as if you haven’t had enough today, one more exciting announcement. Coming up on December 11, all you DVD fanatics can look forward to Wave 7 of the Disney Treasure series. Many moaned about how it was being discontinued...well, moan no more. 3 more releases on that day include Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Chronological Donald Vol. 3, and Disneyland: Stories, Secrets, and Magic. The Disneyland volume was announced a few years ago as a single disc package and the release date was postponed many times. Looks like it finally found a home on the treasure series, and people who have been waiting for its release will be well rewarded. It will include a new documentary with archival footage, featuring Walt’s own words as well as new interviews. That’s it for today folks...I’m worn out from this post so will probably go back to bed.
