Our 1959 family is getting a great overview of the park from the platform of the Main Street Train Station. If we zoom in, we can still see the large banners announcing the gala year of 1959: Monorail, Matterhorn, Submarines...so much going on! And isn't it great to know that all 3 are still in operation?



Riding on the top of the Omnibus gives guests a fantastic (and not often-seen) overhead view of Main Street and the Castle:



Once again, we’ll zoom in for the placards hailing all of the fantastic improvements for 1959:

Now they have finally gotten into the swing of things with these way-cool feathered hats:



This definitely calls for a closeup! Note the Blue Monorail in the background; just 3 months old at the time! And how about those Hawaiian shirts?!? Looks like something Kevin Kidney would have whipped up!

I may not know the year, but thanks to the patriotic bunting in Town Square, I know it must be summer! Here is my favorite Main Street transportation, The Omnibus, ready to take another load of guests down to the Castle.

Over in Tomorrowland in front of the Art Corner, The Spaceman doesn’t seem too thrilled to be posing with this trio of kiddies; maybe it’s the end of his shift.



Here we are soaring over Fantasyland in a Skyway bucket; hey guests & cast members below, watch out for spitwads from above!



And just like yesterday, today’s last stop shows one of the teepees in the Indian Village:

Most Disneyland geeks like myself focus on 1959 as being an historic year in the history of new attractions for the Anaheim Park. However, 1958 had its share of fun, as this series of photos proves. If you can ignore the top of the trash can on the Main Street Train Station balcony, you’ll get a nice view of Town Square and the banner that hangs over Main Street, U.S.A. proclaiming The Columbia in Frontierland and the Disneyland Railroad’s Grand Canyon Diorama. You’ll also note it’s a veritable traffic jam of vehicles; rarely do I see so many all at once.



Our photographer took the Omnibus from Town Square to the Castle, and got this nice view of the information booth near City Hall: once.



Looking back in the opposite direction, we also learn that Alice now has her own dark ride in Fantasyland.

Here’s a good shot of the huge lighted star that used to stand on top of the Matterhorn at Christmas. This slide is from December, 1968. Apparently this tradition was stopped due to the energy crisis/costs during the 1970’s. For more vintage & current Matterhorn photos, visit my regular website.
