After a fantabulous ride aboard the Mark Twain, we ventured over to Fantasyland and happened to catch the Pearly Band playing in front of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

Since mom mentioned she enjoyed riding the train, Casey Junior was the next logical attraction. We crammed into the Monkey Cage and marveled over the detailed miniatures and creative lush landscaping of Storybook Land while Casey chugged along.





The Brown-Eyed Susans were in full bloom and added the perfect splash of color to the line queue:



Time to head over to the Golden Horseshoe, as Mom had never been and we were all in need of some air-conditioned fun. After we grabbed a table towards the front, I got us each a Mint Chocolate Chip Sundae; boy did that hit the spot! As you can see here, we had begun to lapse into a food coma from the Bayou and the sundae.



Once Billy Hill & The Hillbillies began, we all woke up and thoroughly enjoyed the show.



As soon as the Hillbilly teeth went in, I heard my mom laugh like she hadn't laughed in years.





To give our feet a little rest, we boarded the C.K. Holliday at the New Orleans Square/Frontierland Station:





The train got us into Town Square just in time to catch Soundsational. When it comes to parades, it takes a lot to get me to brave the swarms of guests that crowd the streets. I'd rather be anywhere else in the park than a parade route. Soundsational is definitely the exception to the rule.



The whimsical vintage creativity of Kevin Kidney & Jody Daily make this one a winner. Next time you are in the park, DO NOT MISS IT!

Welcome to Frontierland! I love the rustic entrance. Walking over the "bridge," you have time to transition (mentally) from Main Street to the wild untamed area that is supposed to be a tribute to the pioneers of the past.

Today, I might reterm the theming as "refined" rustic! Here's a shot from 2008:



The Davy Crockett Frontier Arcade was originally designated to be a museum that housed the miniatures that Walt had created when his original concept of Disneyland consisted of a number of dioramas that guests would put quarters in to view.



The same building is now home to the Pioneer Mercantile, where you can load up on Disney merchandise:



It may not be fancy, but I like the Pepsi banner proclaiming the name of the popular show playing inside the saloon:



Poor Slue Foot Sue; nothing but a distant memory at the Horseshoe of today:



Things look slow over at the Frontier Stage Depot; these cast members look positively bored stiff!



On another note, Imagineer Collin Campbell recently passed away. Moe Collins (former Disney cast member & Daveland reader) remembers:

He was a quiet, unassuming and versatile talent who never complained about anything and always loved talking about anything to do with Disneyland and WDW in particular. Whenever I escorted dignitaries through WDI (called WED back then), they were invariably mesmerized by his work. Great freehand artist, and even could build models.

Inside Club 33 is a harpsichord that features a beautiful tableau hand-painted by Campbell:

Before the premiere, there was...The Golden Horseshoe. Yes, when I got to the park last Friday afternoon, I made a beeline for The Horseshoe, as I hadn't been to a show there in quite some time. While I waited for the show to start, I took a few interior photos. You know how I love the details!









With the success of The Hoop Dee Doo Revue at WDW, I am surprised that a dinner show has never been done at The Horseshoe. I can only guess that it's a matter of kitchen size and the layout of the Shoe itself. Still...it could be a lot of fun.

Billy Hill and The Hillbillies did not disappoint. They are a talented group, led by the always unpredictable but highly entertaining Kirk Wall.







By the end of the show I was pretty hungry, but a hot dog just wasn't going to cut it. So...I headed over to the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country to try their newly revamped menu.





The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was tasty; I really wanted the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, but decided I should save the guilty calories for the blueberry pie. I was soooooo glad that I did. Yum!



Scot Bruce was doing his Elvis show in Tomorrowland, so after my meal, I made a beeline for the other side of the park. The Star Tours building is looking mighty fine, almost ready for its June debut. When you enter the park, you'll be greeted by ads heralding this fave attraction's return:







Nice...but not as nice as the tiled mural hiding beneath:



Even the Tomorrowland Terrace has a new selection of edibles; overall, it seems like the Dining Division of Disneyland has stepped up their game:

The stage sure looks purty at night!





Whether you like Elvis or not, Scot Bruce puts on one helluva show, and his backup band is pretty fab, too.















Once that was over, it was time to check out Electronica for the first time. In the meantime, I see more photos from my recent trip in your future. Stay tuned.
