The Devlin Collection: Magic Kingdom Club

Selasa, 26 Agustus 2008 0 komentar

Once again, the Devlin Family has kindly allowed me to post these fantastic images from their annual trek to the park for Magic Kingdom Day. The first photo is from September 23, 1961. This series is a great shot of the growth of a family, and the changes that occur over the years. As Tom remembers, “Starting with the drive up from San Diego we all remember being on the lookout for the first glimpse of the Matterhorn from the freeway.  Our parents’ biggest chore was keeping six excited children together long enough to have the MKC photo taken. The coolest part about the MKC visits was that we got a name tag and wrist band that gave us unlimited use of  all the rides. None of that trying to figure out how to get more E-tickets. And that was well before the whole park went to passports.” Shot #2 is from September 22, 1962, at the Babes in Toyland exhibit inside the Opera House.

Same setting, one year later in 1963:

Anyone able to guess the location of this 1964 shot?

1965 was an exciting year; the park was celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary, and everything was appropriately marked with the Tencennial Logo.

MANY thanks to the Devlins for allowing these photos to be posted. Disneyland, October ’59, Pt. 2

The view from Main Street’s Train Station really is spectacular; this photographer was smart enough to stand at an angle that would prevent the Castle from being blocked by the flagpole. Turning to the right, we see the Hills Brothers Coffee Garden & The Opera House, which was still not doing a heck of a lot just yet. I have included a closeup of the entrance area.

Rounding out the vintage portion of today’s post are two from West Center Street, featuring the Flower Market:

And for George, here is the first Kodak Picture area that I noticed in the park; more to come.

Broggie Window, Main Street, and Town Square

Selasa, 24 April 2007 0 komentar

Here is the photo of the recently installed Broggie window that the Major mentioned yesterday. The next shot is also Main Street, from July 1970. Where Disneyana currently is, there’s Berry’s Cookies and the Ring Shop. Next to the cookie sign, the Market House bears the title “Sugar Corner.” Main Street shops sure have undergone some change over the years. It would be nice to have a little more variety in the offerings there today.

Image 3 is Town Square, March 1964, featuring the Mickey Mouse Club in the Opera House and a Toy Shop to the right. Hills Brothers is still around, as you can see the logo above the garden area.
