Traveling Thursdays: More NYC

Kamis, 12 Mei 2011

Central Park is the real jewel of New York City. During my April visit, I was fortunate to have perfect weather on my last day, allowing for a Sunday stroll through the 800+ acres that have been enjoyed by locals and tourists since 1857. The first two photos here show the Hans Christian Andersen memorial statue, sculpted by Georg John Lober in 1956. The 150th birthday anniversary memorial came from contributions in part by Danish and American schoolchildren as well as the Danish-American Women's Association.

Although winter wasn't quite over and many of the trees still appeared barren, there were a few signs of color that signified Spring was on the way.

So many little details to see and photograph!

The Bard of Avon watches over guests at the park courtesy of this statue sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward and unveiled on Literary Walk on May 23, 1872 to commemorate the tricentennial of Shakespeare's birth.

Hope you enjoyed this brief photo tour of Central Park! Follow my Daveland updates on Twitter. See more New York City photos at my regular website.
