Welcome to Frontierland! Here's out motley crew again (no Connie—they are not relatives of mine!). Looking at the apparel, it would seem that they are the textbook example for "be sure to bring layers!" For a full day in Anaheim, the temperatures can run the gamut from cool to sweltering. Note the plaid shirted cast member using a hose on the left to water the landscaping.

Up until 1962, The Chicken Plantation fed hungry guests lip-smackin' good Fried Chicken from Swift Premium meats. As you can see from this January 1962 shot, the Plantation bears a strong resemblance to the faux structure inside the Blue Bayou restaurant:



This photo shows something I'd never heard of, which appears to be a Chicken Plantation House stand. Judging from the photos, when the Plantation Restaurant was torn down, a small stand was constructed to feed guests while the work on New Orleans Square began.



Looks like the ladies in the window are ready to take your order:



Zooming in to the right side of the photo, there's all kinds of crazy construction going on! Remember—this is all pre-Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, and Critter Country. This shot is approximately where the Mansion would be located.

Today is another glimpse of Frontierland before it opened. This area probably will look unfamiliar to many as the landscape has changed a great deal in 50 years. The thatched roof belongs to the Aunt Jemima restaurant, which now is the Riverbelle Terrace. The teepees show the original area that the Indian Village occupied before it was moved to the area now known as Critter Country. I have also included a detail shot of the signage, just for all the other signage geeks like me.

Pt. 2 is a step back in time, as we linger in the rustic part of Anaheim known as Frontierland. The Conestoga Wagon has gotten off to a thunderous start in photo #1. Well, maybe not thunderous, but it is moving forward. In shot #2, you can view the dock for Tom Sawyer’s Island, where you can get on a raft and cruise on over to see Tom & Becky. The umbrellas you see on the left are for the Chicken Plantation Restaurant.



Another Ceremonial Dance is entertaining the crowds at the Indian Village:



Last one for today shows the Columbia, ready for another trip around the Rivers of America. The Dixieland Bandstand is still drawing the crowds in near the Silver Banjo BBQ:

Awhile ago, I posted this double exposure showing the Tomorrowland Spaceman and the back of the Chicken Plantation. The neg for that shot was recently on ebay, so today I thought I’d repost it, since the clarity is so much better. On the same roll was another tragic double exposure which looks like Nightmare on Main Street. Really a shame they were meshed like that. I thought I’d also post another of the June 1958 girl who was in front of the Tiki God on Friday. Today she is standing in front of the Iowa flag pole in Tomorrowland and trying to avoid the rain. Yup...must be June gloom in Socal! EMAIL QUESTION: Today, I had an email from someone asking if Disneyland ever had a special display of the Apollo 11 Command Module. Anybody know about this?
